centre of the circle
If you draw a circle passing through Bank, Moorgate and Liverpool Street underground stations, my firm is located at the centre of the circle. (Theory: if three points are not on a straight line, then there exists one and only one circle passing through all three points (in 2D Euclidean space).)

government conspiracy
Do you know federal reserve is a private entity? It is owned by five most powerful families in the US, and possibly in the world. There are lots of conspiracy theories and people constantly want the government to abandon the currency banking system, but obviously the government is controlled by these families and hence these bills will never be passed. What is freedom? What is democracy? America is in fact an aristocracy, which is not much different to China. In fact, this is not my comment, but this is expressed by one of my colleagues and agreed by other European colleagues. There are so many similarities between US and China: you can see national flags almost everywhere. What is patriotism? It is just a way to brain wash citizens. Patriotism is a powerful weapon of the politians. Of course, there are differences between US and China: Americans are completely brain washed. Almost all of them think that American ways of doing things are the only correct way to do things and that they believe in their governmet because this is effectively chosen by them. However, ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't have time to finish this last night, and I don't have the incentive to continue this any more. However, I have two questions here: 1.When the Federal reserve buys back Bills and Gilts, its banks will print money and basically there will be an increase in the money supply which will increase the inflationary pressure. On the other hand, what happens to the money when Fed sells those papers at the open market auction? Does it keep all the money as reserve or what? 2.How does Fed make money as a private entity? To maximize profit is not its goal or mission statement.

Subtitiles
A couple of months ago, my Italian colleague complaint to me that he did not like the Chinese subtitles when he watched movies. I said to him that he could just ignore them, but he replied to me that he could not. However, I realized the Chinese subtitles must have bigger impact on me than on him. In fact, I always read the subtitles instead of listening to what the actors say. This should not be a big problem if the nice subtitler made good/accurate translations. However, this is often not the case. For example, today I was watching 'first snow' when I was having dinner. I had no idea what the movie was about at the beginning until I realized the subtitles were full of craps. I bet the person who wrote the subtitles could only understand about 10% of the movie and he somehow wrote the rest of the conversations. I think this might be a good movie, as it seems to me that it discusses whether we should believe in fate. This is a debatable question and there is no right and wrong answer as nobdy can really prove anything with real convincing supportive facts. However, as I was reading the subtitles, I could not understand most of the stuff either. Probably I should watch the movie again. (The good thing is that I only watched the half of the movie today.)

出埃及记
Exodus What does it mean? It seems to me that it tells us that if something sounds too riduculous then nobody will believe.

Rotation
The first boss has rotated to London, but he will be gone to visit some clients next week. My first impression of him is that he is a very tough guy, which is completely different style to the big boss who is about to leave in less than a month. My personality or management skill is a bit like the boss who is about to leave: bascially, I'd like to learn everything and know almost everything so that I can know whether I can trust/count on my teammates. However, this new head obviously knows very little about finance, as he is the CTO of the whole company. However, he has no problem at all about this, as he claimed that he would be able to find help for us if we need any sort of financial background support. He dares to criticis other heads of divisions openly (but only within our division), and he will be able to fight strongly for political issues, such as funding and share of support and benefits. I have no idea this is good or bad for me, but the transition has tied me more closely to the small boss, which might be a good thing. I just realized that he indeed has much stronger interpersonal skills than me but on the other hand, he is too patient and careful about everything. I would say he was too cautious, maybe it is because he is Russian. People make mistakes all the time, so we should not be shameful to make any mistakes, but on the other hand, we should try to learn something every time we make a mistake. Sooner or later we will realize how much we have learnt in a certain period of time. I should stop bullshitting, as I just spent a whole night chatting with a flatmate and did not do any studying for the second night.

CFA is bullshiting!
On page 218 of the economics book, it mentioned that the adverting activity will increase the total cost and average total cost and that it will boost quantity sold. However, it jumps to a wrong conclusion, which is at the level of increased quantity sold, the average total cost is actually reduced. The book uses a figure to show this result: basically, the quantity sold increases from 25 to 100 and the price drops from 60 to 40. On the other hand, if the quantity sold is only doubled to 50, the price will increase to 80, which is more realistic in my view. Similarly, if you look at the figure 8 on page 219, you will find that adverting increases the demand and elasticity of the demand. However, at price 60 dollars per jacket, the demand decreases from 70 to zero. Hence, their explanation contradicts to itself. CFA people are even more stupid than those who set Alevel exams. Damn! How can I pass the exam?

Late notice
I was just given an hour notice that I should go to a place to K ge. Last time, I was given 2 hours notice to go to some restaurant to have brunch. Why can't they plan a week in advance? I am wondering what happened to the paintball game, which is supposed to be held this weekend.

The shape of a demand curve
I don't believe it should be downward sloping all the way. I believe for most of the good, a small increase in price will lead to a small decrease in demand. However, when the price increases substantially, the good will be considered as a luxury. Wait...... There is something wrong with my arguement, so I need to think about this more carefully.

London is small too?
This week I went out several times. Every time I went out, I would be able to meet some friends. Is this a coincidence? Does it mean I know too many people or is London too small? The rational explanation is as follows: Chinese people share something in common, so it is very likely that we would like to go to visit the same places. Although London is huge, there are not so many interesting places to go to. As a result, people go to places such as Chinatown, and the chance that I see a friend there is probably close to 1.

supernatural incidents
As I talked to one of my high schoolmate tonight, she told me lots of supernatural incidents she heard over the years. Although I never believed in these kind of stuff, that reminded me something I disagree with modern physics. According to modern physics, things only exist if they are observables. More tomorrow. I think I need to check this carefully, before I make any false statement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems in physics, obserables are just some kinds of operators. Whatever that means in mathematics, I believe there are things existing in this world, which cannot be obervable at the moment. Maybe there will be some improvement in technologies, such that we found the fifth interaction other than strong, weak, electric and graviational interactions. This means it is possible that something such as ghosts live in our world. We cannot see them as they are not obserable by the modern science. Maybe in a hundred years, they will become observable. On the other hand, even if ghosts exist, it does not mean that they are the things after our lives. They may simply be some kind of creatures who live in this world but do not know our existence. This reminds me a horror movie: white noise. I believe white noises are just simply noises. It's just some people are so keen in finding ghosts or contacting dead relatives that they strongly believe in this phenomenon. In the end, they may become paranoid or even mentally ill and as a result, they see some illusions and/or hear voices.

world is small
I found a high schoolmate last weekend here in London. As he didn't tell anybody about this, none of us knew. I also found a primary schoolmate and middle schoolmate here in London on New Year's Eve. What a coincidence! As a result, I went out much more often this week than usually. This is not a good sign, and I should only get out at weekends. Well... My schedule for next weekend seemed being filled already! Damn!

New Year Resolution 2008
There is no such thing in my life ever, as I will forget it the day after I make one. It is the same this year again. Sorry to disappoint some of you. I'd like to have a big change in my life, but my life has already changed a lot recently. My attitude towards life has always been swinging between hedonism and asceticism, and my religions belief has always been oscillating between altruism and egoism. Fucking heaven! (Cannot think of anything else to finish this article.) Well, not quite! 拔了盟甘!昨天听到的最多的一个词~~~纪念多学了个“蒙古文”。

A question on Macro
I started to use Macro for Excel yesterday. As I don't have a user guide and any book, basically I learnt everything via Internet. On the internet, I did find some books, but the websites asked for dozens of dollars, and I strongly believe my boss won't approve the expense. Hence, I tried another way of learning. Try and error and looking for answer. This leads to a very slow process, but by the end of today I have finished my Macro application. It's not great, but it can finish what I ask it to do. It would be better if someone can answer me the following question: How can I switch between windows inside a loop? It seems Excel cannot recognize the commond 'Window(window name).active' if it is put inside a loop. An advice: for those who use Excel everyday and whose work is repeated 'mechanical' work, you can try to use Macro. It is very easy to get started as there is a Macro record button. Basically, that button can record 'all' your moves on a macro application. The only problem is that sometimes, which is usually a critical step, it was unable to record your move, which is really annoying! Another strange thing is that sometimes it works fine now and that it stops working for the next minute.

Too fast
I've got a habit of watching movies while enjoying my food. Today, after I got off DLR, it began to rain, so I didn't bother to walk one more minute to ASDA to grab some food. Instead, I cooked noodles and fried a couple of eggs. As usual, after the cooking, I randomly played one of the movies stored on the hard drive of my computer. But this time, I finished my dinner in front right after the movie actually started. There was a long song before the movie started and the only scene I was able to see was a woman driving on a highway with the radio on. Some news presenter said in German that there were three girls missing, etc. That was it! I finished my dinner and clicked the "cross" button.

Filmed in Hamstead Heath, London. Very interesting stories, really! Strongly recommanded. Didn't realize there are professional girlfriends in the UK just as in Japan! "Gay couples by definition are environmental friendly." ......

Bhutto's death
It is strange that people have been arguing about how she died. Why is it a big deal whether she died from a bullet penetrating her skull or died as a result of banging her head on part of her car's sun roof? I don't understand. What is important is that who did this? What are their intention? Is it really the terrorists who did this? Is it the president who ordered the assassination? Or is it the president of the states who ordered this? Only the people who really did this can be certain. Well... they should be. However, if there are more than one group of people who want her dead, (which is more than true,) it is possible that more than two groups of assasins appeared and did it at the same time. On the other hand, Bhutto should be jailed for life at the first place. Her husband has a nick name 'Mr. Ten Percent', because for every deal he signed he asked for 10% commission. As their family is so rich and powerful and pro-America, they gained lots of support from the western world. Would it be a good thing for her to rule the country? Yes, for Americans, but no for Pakistanians. This is purely my own opinion. However, why would I mention it could be Americans wanted her dead? She was a pro-American figure, but she claimed asylum in the UK. Why? How many pro-American figures became anti-America? You name them: Bin Laden, Saddam, ... She could be one of them, and the general public would never know. We only know what politicians want us to know. In the west, people say 'we've got free media'. Really? Who do the jounalists get the information from? They only know what people say and what powerful people want them to say. This is all global governments' conspiracy, as it is said by one of my colleagues. Governments are working together now to gain benefits for them, the governing officials. Do you know how much the president of the united states have earned by invading Iraq, killing millions of civians directly and indirectly, and killing their own people directly and indirectly? Do you know how much the Chinese officials have earned by stopping the international intervention of African businesses? You would never know. This game starts with billions of dollars, and it will never end as people are greedy. While people wish the world is like heaven or a realized communism, the world is becoming more and more like a profit/power dominated gambling place. Those who don't like playing the game will always lose, as they will never be powerful/rich enough to fight against America, Russia, China and/or some other countries. ONLY these countries have the say, have the rights to make the rules, and only those who control these countries can truly win the game, well, at least for a short while. Are you in the game or not? Do you want to play the game or not? Do you really know/understand the rules? We are just one of the other players, who will help the winner winning. All we can do is trying to keep ourselves still in the game, but some people who don't understand the rules may be forced to leave with nothing. This is not like 'the weakest link', as you will leave without money, fame, dignety and life.

new year
There is a countdown every year, as I have heard. Should I go there and have a look? On boxing day, I went out to see the millions of people on London streets and took photos of them, but somehow I formatted my camera, so I lost all the photos. This reminded me that I could not find my ipod, which contains more than a dozen of movies.

christmas
There is something wrong with 20six again these days, and I cannot log on at all. On the other hand, my computer is not working smoothly, so I didn't have many chances to do anything. Well... let's cut the shit and go back to my topic. As Christmas is always quite in the UK, I could not do anything rather than stay at home. As all the shops are closed on Christmas day and only fairly limited amount of shops are open on Boxing day, I did some 'shopping' before christmas. The reason I used quotation marks is that this is my definition of shopping. Basically, I just bought some foods with my flatmates. We spent over 100 pounds on foods. :D We had hotpot on Christmas, and as we had so much food leftover, we had hotpot again on Boxing day. As I had so much on these two days, I didn't feel hungry at all for the whole day on 27th, which is really unusual for me. Nevertheless, I felt really hungry on the evening of the 28th, maybe because my stomache was a little bit larger than usual. Christmas is really good time for work, as my big boss said. What she meant is that there won't be so many clients' quests so it is good time to sit down and learn stuff and write some documents. However, my understanding is different: as everyone is in holiday mood, there is no pressure for work at all. Therefore, it is an ease for me to work. :D Some of my colleagues left the office at 3pm on 27th and 28th. However, hard work will start next week. The world will be back to normal the week after next, and I should start to worry about everything tomorrow.
